An inversion machine is a device that will invert and hold your body in an upside-down position. It typically is made up of a cushioned bench upon which you lie, then are strapped in by your feet and/or legs. It can then rotate you into an upside-down position where you can lie as long as you are comfortable.
A common use of an inversion machine is to alleviate back pain. Most people experience back pain at some point in their lives, usually from poor posture, sitting or standing all day, and/or weak abdominal and back muscles. Gravity is constantly pulling down upon the spine, and inverting the body will allow the vertebrae to decompress. The back will elongate and the pressure between the vertebrae will lessen.
Regular use of an inversion machine will also help circulation of blood and lymph fluid. If you stand all day at your job, you are at higher risk for varicose veins. Inverting the body will help to prevent varicose veins by helping blood circulation. It will also flood the brain with blood, making you feel more awake and alert.
Unlike blood, lymph fluid is not pumped through your body by the heart and travels mostly by gravity. It can cause swelling if it builds up in the feet and legs. Regular use of an inversion machine will help carry lymph away from the feet and legs and will result in less bloating and water retention in the lower part of the body.
Expect to pay between two and four hundred dollars for a quality inversion machine, but there are less expensive models on the market and it may be possible to buy a used machine for less money. An inversion machine has multiple health benefits including alleviating back pain and improving circulation when used properly.
